My 🔶Thursday Thoughts🔶 have been focused on art instead of news today. I have been working hard on this piece all week and just finished it tonight. I haven’t titled it and usually don’t show my work immediately after it’s done (I like to sit back and absorb it for a few days and reflect before titling and sharing with others). But, I wanted to give you something tonight even though my brain is too tired to sift through the news. The moody shadow lighting of the new Batman movie really resonated with me and influenced this piece. I’ve always been drawn to light and shadow as well as asymmetrical composition balance and an evocation of solitude or bleakness. Images with these qualities don’t make me feel sad, but instead make me feel a sense of comfort in the acknowledgment of the tension and survival in life, against the odds. This is made with hundreds of small pieces of cut paper from dozens of sources, adhered with an archival adhesive to a poplar wooden panel. I’ll be brush varnishing this tomorrow. Read more
