welcome to the monkey house kurt vonnegut a collection of short stories that was mostly a reread for me, except this is the special edition that iāve never read before. in the back thereās the alternate drafts of the welcome to the monkey house story. reading the drafts made me feel as if i was looking over his shoulder as he was writing. i wanted to yell at him āno! keep that in!ā i like some of the drafts better than the published version. i wish i could read all his drafts for every book. i wish i could read everything heās ever written, not just published. i donāt like the r word in the official story. i think it could have been written without it. same with sirens of titan. i rarely think a r word scene is necessary. i mean the four letter one. āwho am i this timeā is my favorite in the collection. iām not usually a big fan of short stories, because i find myself thinking āthatās it?ā but vonnegut is able to put more action and meaning in these stories than most writers put in full novels. all the kings horses is a whole ass movie. 8/10 overall, but some of these are 10s to me.
